8 years ago I was sprawled on the concrete, staring up at the sky from a pile of shattered glass and twisted metal. Bloody, broken, and surrounded by the wreckage of the gold Impala that hit me (and that of my own body) I knew I had my work cut out for me. I knew from then on, everything would change. I’d have to teach myself to walk again. I’d have to figure out an alternative cashflow, mentally and physically. I’d have to heal, on every level.

So there I was. It’s just before midnight. The city is alive and wrapped in vintage Houston humidity. I’m lying there among the potholes of FM 1960, mangled, sweating and bleeding to the point I couldn’t even tell the two apart. Not 3 minutes before, I was going about my business, crossing the street. Then, in an instant, my corner of the world turned upside down. At that obscure moment, on a random, hot Houston night, I knew every aspect of my life would be different from then on. More importantly - I knew something in my heart. I had to make a choice. Will I let this accident define me? Or am I going to get back up, stand, and fight.
